Ankelohe Conversations is a series of international writers’ symposia that convene about 25-30 distinguished book authors and opinion leaders at Gut Ankelohe, a beautiful country estate outside of Hamburg (Germany), to discuss the most pressing issues of our time and to form perhaps lasting intellectual and personal relationships.
The writers – mainly from Britain, the United States, Germany, and other countries – are carefully selected from various (mostly) non-fiction backgrounds. They are given the opportunity to exchange ideas and knowledge in off-the-record discussions with renowned speakers from academia, business, science, politics, think-tanks, NGOs, as well as international institutions.
Inspiring controversy as well as understanding, the Ankelohe Conversations aim to shape the intellectual landscape across borders and to spark public debates on crucial issues. The past gatherings on "Climate Change and the Oil Endgame" (2006), on “Resource Wars” (2007), and on “China – The Struggling Giant” (2008) were great successes, with fascinating meetings of minds. The topic for the next AnkCon from May 6-9th, 2010, again kindly supported by the Dräger Foundation, will be announced soon, with invitations to go out thereafter.
